Tuesday the 10th, first full day in Dover

We decided to “sleep in” this morning, so we got a late start. We attempted to get to St. Margaret’s Bay, but ended up downtown Dover, so we went into a shopping area and had a look around. We decided that Lilia needed another sweater and we found one. Then we decided that I was tired of seeing my blue coat which didn’t seem to keep me warm anyway, so we looked for another coat for me. Found a green one, and later, when we were at the bay, it proved its worth.
Then we went for a walk into the town of Dover sand found a salon where I got my haircut (number two razor, if you please) and Lilia went to get her manicure and pedicure. We then found a beauty salon where Lilia made an appointment to get her haircut.
After that we stopped off and saw St. Mary the Virgin church from the 12th century.

Walked on a little farther and chanced upon the Roman Painted House. This seems to be a work in progress, but the ruins and displays are very interesting.

Got back to the car and decided to attempt to find St. Margarets Bay again. Actually found it this time. Down a steep hill along a long 1 1/2 car width road. The bottom of the hill at the bay is AMAZING! See for yourselves in the photos. The \White Cliffs of Dover were a wonder. Also could see France as it is only 20.7 miles away.
Stopped and chatted with an old lobsterman. He just has a rowboat and a few lobster pots. Got one lobster today. Also found a crab in the boat and threw it to the seagulls. He fishes for himself.
The White House you may notice in a couple photos was once owned by Noel Coward and he sold it to Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond.

I believe the singer of “There’ll be bluebirds over, the White Cliffs of Dover”, Vera Lynn, is still alive today at 102 years old.

A recent article about her.

After taking it all in for awhile, we decided to have a meal at The Coastguard, a restaurant in the bay.

Decided to come home before sunset and settle in as both of us were worn out.
Good night.
